It is recommended that you at least read the short setup and startup material. It is heavily recommended that you read the entire FAQ, as it provides information about debugging, coding, other resources, and will generally make your life much easier.
It is also recommended that you join RomLama. RomLama is a distribution of areas managed by Dave Clapper. If you submit one original zone to RomLama and abide by their very reasonable requirements, you get access to the entire distribution of dozens of zones. While not all RomLama zones are suitable for every mud, there is a wide range of different styles available.
